Revelation in dialogue
What think ye of the Christ? whose son is he?
[The Pharisees: The son of David.]
How then doth David in the Spirit call him Lord, saying,
The Lord said unto my Lord,
Sit thou on my right hand,
Till I put thine enemies underneath thy feet?
If David then calleth him Lord, how is he his son?
m2242-5/l2041-4/k1235-7
Who do men say that the Son of man is?
[The disciples: Some say John the Baptist; some, Elijah: and others, Jeremiah,
or one of the prophets.]
But who say ye that I am?
[Peter: Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.]
Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-Jonah: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it
unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
m1613-7/l0918-20
[The Samaritan woman: I know that Messiah cometh (which is called Christ):
when he is come, he will declare unto us all things.]
I that speak unto thee am he.
j0425-6
[Two of John's disciples: Art thou he that cometh, or look we for another?]
Go your way and tell John the things which ye do hear and see: the blind
receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf
hear, and the dead are raised up, and the poor have good tidings preached to
them. And blessed is he, whosoever shall find none occasion of stumbling in
me.
m1103-6/l0719-23
[To the man born blind:] Dost thou believe on the Son of God?
[And who is he, Lord, that I may believe on him?]
Thou hast both seen him, and he it is that speaketh with thee.
[Lord, I believe.]
j0935-8
[The Jews: If thou art the Christ, tell us plainly.]
I told you, and ye believe not: the works that I do in my Father's name, these
bear witness of me. But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep. My
sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: and I give unto them
eternal life; and they shall never perish, and no one shall snatch them out of
my hand. My Father, which hath given them unto me, is greater than all; and no
one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand. I and the Father are one.
[The Jews took up stones again to stone him.]
Many good works have I shewed you from the Father; for which of those works do
ye stone me?
[For a good work we stone thee not, but for blasphemy; and because that thou,
being a man, makest thyself God.]
Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods? If he called them gods,
unto whom the word of God came (and scripture cannot be broken), say ye of
him, whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest;
because I said, I am the Son of God? If I do not the works of my Father,
believe me not. But if I do them, though ye believe not me, believe the works:
that ye may know and understand that the Father is in me, and I in the Father.
j1024-38
[The high priest: Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?]
I am: ....
k1461-2/m2263-4
[Pilate: Art thou a king then?]
Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end have I been born, and to this end am
I come into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth.
