19 COMMUNION (cont'd)

[And upon this came his disciples; and they marvelled that he was speaking with a woman; yet no man said, What seekest thou? or, Why speakest thou with her? So the woman left her waterpot, and went away into the city, and saith to the men, Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: can this be the Christ? They went out of the city, and were coming to him. In the mean while the disciples prayed him, saying, Rabbi, eat.]
I have meat to eat that ye know not.
[The disciples: Hath any man brought him aught to eat?]
My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to accomplish his work. Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh the harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields, that they are white already unto harvest. He that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal; that he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together. For herein is the saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth. I sent you to reap that whereon ye have not laboured: others have laboured, and ye are entered into their labour.                                                                                                                                                               j0427-38

BAPTISM & SECOND BIRTH

His Own Baptism
I came to cast fire upon the earth; and what will I, if it is already kindled? But I have a baptism to be baptized with; and how am I straitened till it be accomplished!                                                                                                                                                   l1249-50

[To John the Baptist:] Suffer it now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness.                                                                     m0315

[James and John: Grant unto us that we may sit, one on thy right hand, and one on thy left hand, in thy glory.]
Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink the cup that I drink? or to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?
[James and John: We are able.]
The cup that I drink ye shall drink; and with the baptism that I am baptized withal shall ye be baptized: but to sit on my right hand or on my left hand is not mine to give: but it is for them for whom it hath been prepared.

The Baptism of John
[The Chief priests, the Scribes and the elders: By what authority doest thou these things? or who gave thee this authority to do these things?]
I will ask of you one question, and answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things. The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or from men? answer me.
[And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say, Why then did ye not believe him? But should we say, From men - they feared the people: for all verily held John to be a prophet. And they answered Jesus and say, We know not.]
Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things.                                                                                         k1128-33/m2123/l2002-8

Mission to Baptize
.... for John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.
[The Disciples: Lord, dost thou at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?]
It is not for you to know times or seasons, which the Father hath set within his own authority. But ye shall receive power, when the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be my witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea and Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.                                                                                                                                                                                     a0105-08

All authority hath been given unto me in heaven and on earth. Go ye therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I commanded you: and lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world.                                                                                                                 m2818-20

Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to the whole creation. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that disbelieveth shall be condemned. And these signs shall follow them that believe: in my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; they shall take up serpents, and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall in no wise hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.                                                                                                                                                        k1615-18
