[Peter: Lord, how oft shall my
brother sin against me, and I forgive him? until seven times?]
I say not unto thee, Until seven times; but, Until seventy times seven.
Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which would
make a reckoning with his servants. And when he had begun to reckon, one was
brought unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents. But forasmuch as he
had not wherewith to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife,
and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made. The servant
therefore fell down and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me,
and I will pay thee all. And the lord of that servant, being moved with
compassion, released him, and forgave him the debt. But that servant went
out, and found one of his fellow-servants, which owed him a hundred pence:
and he laid hold on him, and took him by the throat, saying, Pay what thou
owest. So his fellow-servant fell down and besought him, saying, Have
patience with me, and I will pay thee. And he would not: but went and cast
him into prison, till he should pay that which was due. So when his
fellow-servants saw what was done, they were exceeding sorry, and came and
told unto their lord all that was done. Then his lord called him unto him,
and saith to him, Thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because
thou besoughtest me: shouldest not thou also have had mercy on thy
fellow-servant, even as I had mercy on thee? And his lord was wroth, and
delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due. So
shall also my heavenly Father do unto you, if ye forgive not every one his
brother from your hearts.

If therefore thou art offering thy gift at the altar, and there rememberest
that thy brother hath aught against thee, leave there thy gift before the
altar, and go thy way, first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and
offer thy gift. Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art with him
in the way; lest haply the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the
judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison. Verily I
say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou have paid
the last farthing.

for I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.

10 Money
Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon the earth, where moth and rust doth
consume, and where thieves break through and steal: but lay up for
yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth consume,
and where thieves do not break through nor steal: for where thy treasure is,
there will thy heart be also.

He that is faithful in a very little is faithful also in much: and he that
is unrighteous in a very little is unrighteous also in much. If therefore ye
have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your
trust the true riches? And if ye have not been faithful in that which is
another's, who will give you that which is your own? No servant can serve
two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he
will hold to one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

Man, who made me a judge or a divider over you?
Take heed, and keep yourselves from all covetousness: for a man's life
consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.
The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: and he reasoned
within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have not where to bestow
my fruits? And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build
greater; and there will I bestow all my corn and my goods. And I will say to
my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease,
eat, drink, be merry. But God said unto him, Thou foolish one, this night is
thy soul required of thee; and the things which thou hast prepared, whose
shall they be? So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich
toward God.

[Yea.]
What thinkest thou, Simon? the kings of the earth, from whom do they receive
toll or tribute? from their sons, or from strangers?
[From strangers.]
Therefore the sons are free. But, lest we cause them to stumble, go thou to
the sea, and cast a hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and
when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a shekel: that take, and
give unto them for me and thee.
