8 CONDUCT (cont'd)
17 Watch
Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is. It is as
when a man, sojourning in another country, having left his house, and given
authority to his servants, to each one his work, commanded also the porter
to watch. Watch therefore: for ye know not when the lord of the house
cometh, whether at even, or at midnight, or at cock-crowing, or in the
morning; lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping. And what I say unto you
I say unto all, Watch.

Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath set over his
household, to give them their food in due season? Blessed is that servant,
whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. Verily I say unto you,
that he will set him over all that he hath. But if that evil servant shall
say in his heart, My lord tarrieth; and shall begin to beat his
fellow-servants, and shall eat and drink with the drunken; the lord of that
servant shall come in a day when he expecteth not, and in an hour when he
knoweth not, and shall cut him asunder, and appoint his portion with the
hypocrites: there shall be the weeping and gnashing of teeth.

The Parable of the Rich Fool
The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: and he reasoned
within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have not where to bestow
my fruits? And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build
greater; and there will I bestow all my corn and my goods. And I will say to
my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease,
eat, drink, be merry. But God said unto him, Thou foolish one, this night is
thy soul required of thee; and the things which thou hast prepared, whose
shall they be? So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich
toward God.
l1216-21
Let your loins be girded about, and your lamps burning; and be ye yourselves
like unto men looking for their lord, when he shall return from the marriage
feast; that, when he cometh and knocketh, they may straightway open unto
him. Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he cometh shall find
watching: verily I say unto you, that he shall gird himself, and make them
sit down to meat, and shall come and serve them. And if he shall come in the
second watch, and if in the third, and find them so, blessed are those
servants.

And I say unto you, Every one who shall confess me before men, him shall the
Son of man also confess before the angels of God: but he that denieth me in
the presence of men shall be denied in the presence of the angels of God.
And every one who shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be
forgiven him: but unto him that blasphemeth against the Holy Spirit it shall
not be forgiven. And when they bring you before the synagogues, and the
rulers, and the authorities, be not anxious how or what ye shall answer, or
what ye shall say: for the Holy Spirit shall teach you in that very hour
what ye ought to say.
l1208-12
And blessed is he, whosoever shall find none occasion for stumbling in me.

Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon the earth, where moth and rust doth
consume, and where thieves break through and steal: but lay up for
yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth consume,
and where thieves do not break through nor steal: for where thy treasure is,
there will thy heart be also. The lamp of the body is the eye: if therefore
thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. But if thine eye
be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light
that is in thee be darkness, how great is the darkness! No man can serve two
masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he
will hold to one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
Therefore I say unto you, Be not anxious for your life, what ye shall eat,
or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not
the life more than the food, and the body than the raiment? Behold the birds
of the heaven, that they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into
barns; and your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are not ye much more value
than they? And which of you by being anxious can add one cubit unto his
stature? And why are ye anxious concerning raiment? Consider the lilies of
the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: yet I say
unto you, that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of
these. But if God doth so clothe the grass of the field, which today is, and
to-morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of
little faith? Be not therefore anxious, saying, What shall we eat? or, What
shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? For after all these
things do the Gentiles seek; for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have
need of all these things. But seek ye first his kingdom, and his
righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
