                                                                                                  11  FAITH

.... for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.                                                                                  m0608

Therefore I say unto you, Be not anxious for your life, what ye shall eat; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. For the life is more than the food, and the body than the raiment. Consider the ravens, that they sow not, neither reap; which have no storechamber nor barn; and God feedeth them: of how much more value are ye than the birds! And which of you by being anxious can add a cubit unto his stature? If then ye are not able to do even that which is least, why are ye anxious concerning the rest? Consider the lilies, how they grow: they toil not, neither do they spin; yet I say unto you, Even Soloman in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God doth so clothe the grass in the field, which to-day is, and to-morrow is cast into the oven; how much more shall he clothe you, O ye of little faith? And seek not ye what ye shall eat, and what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind. For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: but your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things. Howbeit seek ye his kingdom, and these things shall be added unto you. Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.                       l1222-32/m0625-32

[After the disciples failed to cure an epileptic boy:]
O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I bear with you? bring him hither to me.
[And the boy was cured from that hour.]
[The Disciples; Why could not we cast it out?]
Because of your little faith: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.                  m1717-20/k0919&28/l0941-3&1705-6

[Mark's additional dialogue in the same case:]
How long time is it since this hath come unto him?
[His father: From a child. And oft-times it hath cast him both into the fire and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do anything, have compassion on us, and help us.]
If thou canst! All things are possible to him that believeth.
[I believe; help thou mine unbelief.]
[And when Jesus saw that a multitude came running together, he rebuked the unclean spirit:] Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I command thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.
[And having cried out, and torn him much, he came out: and the child became as one dead; insomuch that the more part said, He is dead.]
[But Jesus took him by the hand, and raised him up; and he arose.]                                                                                             k0921-7
[And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately: We could not cast it out.
This kind can come out by nothing, save by prayer.                                                                                                       k0928/m0919-20

[The apostles: Increase our faith.]
If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye would say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou rooted up, and be thou planted in the sea; and it would have obeyed you. But who is there of you, having a servant plowing or keeping sheep, that will say unto him, when he is come in from the field, Come straightway and sit down to meat; and will not rather say unto him, Make ready wherewith I may sup, and gird thyself, and serve me, till I have eaten and drunken; and afterward thou shall eat and drink? Doth he thank the servant because he did the things that were commanded? Even so ye also, when ye have done all the things that are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants; we have done that which it was our duty to do.                                                                                         l1705-10

[A centurion: Lord, my servant lieth in the house sick of the palsy, grievously tormented.]
I will come and heal him.
[The centurion: Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but only say the word, and my servant shall be healed. For I also am a man under authority, having under myself soldiers: and I say to this one, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.]
Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.                                                           m0805-10/l0703-9/j0449-50
[To the centurion:] Go thy way; as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee.                                                                              m0813
